Teen car accident deaths rise by as much as 19 percent in 2012

Massachusetts residents may be interested to learn of a recently released study which shows an alarming trend with respect to teenage drivers. The study, which examines statistics from each state, compared the rate of deaths among drivers between the ages of 16 and 17 for the first six months of 2012 as compared to the first six months of 2011.

The study revealed a dramatic increase in the number of deaths in 2012. There were 202 teenagers killed in car accidents in 2011 and 240 in 2012.

Many experts point to the parallel increase in the use of technology by teenagers in today’s society. Texting and driving is a very serious issue for all drivers, but teenagers tend to be particularly attached to this form of communication. In fact, one driver’s education instructor in Springfield believes that many teenagers are actually addicted to their mobile phones. He offers some good advice for these new and inexperienced drivers. He recommends storing their cell phone in the glove compartment and making sure not to speed on the roads.

The study appears to indicate that when the economy is strong, the number of teen deaths tend to rise, as the number of teen drivers increases. An individual who is texting and driving may become so distracted that they cause a car crash to occur.

If anyone is injured in a car accident due to another’s negligence, they may be entitled to receive compensation for their injuries. Some forms of compensation include reimbursement of medical expenses, reimbursement of lost wages, damages for pain and suffering and damages for any permanent impairment or permanent disability as a result of the accident.
