Halifax teenagers crash into bus, three suffer serious injuries

On Behalf of | Apr 17, 2013 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Most Massachusetts residents know that operating a vehicle is a big responsibility. That is why extra precautions should be taken to avoid distractions and allow a driver to focus on the task at hand – arriving safely to one’s destination. Teenagers in particular can have an especially difficult time comprehending the risks associated with driving. Unfortunately, they are frequently involved in very serious car accidents.

Many factors may cause a car accident to occur. Distracted driving, driving while texting or talking on a cell phone, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, careless driving and speeding can be common among teenagers.

Recently, an investigation into a serious car accident in Halifax has now revealed that the driver of the vehicle was smoking marijuana just before the accident. According to reports, the teenage driver was transporting three of her friends to school when she crashed into a bus. One of the passengers of her car is still in critical condition and is on life support.

If someone is injured while riding in a car due to another party’s negligence, whether it be the driver of the vehicle they are riding in or the driver of another vehicle, they are entitled to seek compensation for their injuries. A victim may be entitled to receive reimbursement for medical expenses incurred as a result of the accident and compensation for ongoing medical treatment. They may also be entitled to receive damages for lost wages, loss of future income and pain and suffering caused by the accident. In a case such as this one, a victim may also be entitled to seek additional punitive damages against the driver of the vehicle if the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
