School bus crash in Newtown sends 34 to the hospital

On Behalf of | May 9, 2013 | Car Accidents, Firm News

It is a parent’s worst nightmare to be told that their child has been involved in an accident. Unfortunately, that is what happened to the parents of 34 middle school children in Newtown recently.

According to reports, a Newtown school bus was involved in a three vehicle car accident. Although an investigation is ongoing, initial reports indicate that the school bus may have struck one vehicle from behind, and, in turn, that vehicle struck another car. The bus was full of students from Jonas Clarke Middle School and William Diamond Middle School.

All of the children were taken to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Some children had more serious complaints than others. Some of the children were complaining of head, neck and back pain, following the accident, while others appeared to only have minor cuts and bruises. Fortunately, none of the students suffered life threatening or severe injuries.

If someone is injured in a car or bus, due to someone else’s negligence, they may be entitled to seek damages to compensate them for their injuries. These damages include monetary compensation for lost wages, reimbursement of medical expenses and compensation for pain and suffering, brought about as a result of the accident and injuries sustained. In addition to these damages, it may also be possible to recover damages for any permanent disability or impairment caused by the accident.

It is important to seek as much information as possible prior to initiating this type of action as these actions can be quite complex. There are also strict timelines that must be followed to preserve the right to recover monetary damages, so it is advisable to act quickly, if one has suffered an injury as a result of someone else’s negligence on the road.
