Massachusetts runner killed in tragic car accident

On Behalf of | Jun 25, 2014 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Nowadays many Massachusetts take to the outdoors to enjoy the sun, warmth, and scents of spring. Though several of these individuals run, walk, or ride a bike on or near the roadways motorists owe them a duty of care to keep them safe from harm. This not only means refraining from acting negligently in ways such as speeding, driving while intoxicated, or driving while texting, but also taking certain actions, like yielding the right of way, that ensure pedestrian safety.

Tragically, one Massachusetts pedestrian was recently killed in a car accident. The victim, a young, cheerful female student who was running near the roadway, was struck by an SUV. The woman was taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver, who has been found at fault in 10 other accidents, was driving on a suspended license and was subsequently taken into custody after the crash. He now faces multiple charges, including motor vehicle homicide.

Those who suffer a serious injury or who lose a loved one to an accident caused by a negligent or distracted driver are often left with irreparable harm. Physical, emotional and financial losses are all real possibilities, sometimes leaving individuals permanently disabled in more ways than one. Fortunately, though, these damages may be recoupable.

A local attorney experienced with car accident cases may be able to assist a victim or his or her family in this complex, oftentimes frustrating process. Accident reports will need to be pored over, witnesses interviewed, evidence gathered, and legal arguments crafted, but an aggressive attorney will do so with vigor. By brining passion and dedication to a case, an attorney may be able to help a victim, or his or her family, recover the compensation deserved and needed from a negligent driver to cover losses such as medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
