Car clipped, causing serious accident and injuries

On Behalf of | Nov 5, 2015 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Oftentimes when we discuss car accidents on this blog, we talk about instances where a negligent driver has made a serious mistake, causing a serious car wreck. These drivers may be intoxicated, cross over into oncoming traffic or fail to yield to a pedestrian or motorcycle. Yet, even seemingly minor mistakes made behind the wheel can cause a devastating crash that can leave a victim with significant harm.

This was the case recently in one Massachusetts car accident. There, an SUV attempted to change lanes but, in the process, clipped the rear end of another vehicle. As a result, that vehicle’s driver lost control of her car and ended up in the lanes of oncoming traffic. Her car was then hit by a semi-truck. The victim was airlifted to the hospital where her condition remains unknown at this time. No criminal charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.

A mere bump like this can leave a victim with a serious injury, perhaps one that winds up being fatal. Yet, regardless of how small the mistake, the negligent driver who caused a crash like this may be held liable for the resulting damages caused to the victim. In order to impose liability, an accident victim must file a personal injury lawsuit and satisfactorily show that the driver was, in fact, negligent, that negligence caused the accident and the victim suffered injuries as a result.

It might sound easy enough, but proving negligence, causation and the extent of the victim’s damages is often times complicated by uncertain facts and legal issues. A Knoxville attorney experienced with personal injury law might be able to help a victim assess his or her claim, though, and assist in developing a legal strategy that fights for the compensation the victim deserves.
