Truckers in Massachusetts should be able to prevent rollovers

The roadways in Massachusetts can be dangerous. For the most part, the threat is not posed by the roads themselves, but rather by those who are driving on them. Although many of us have been involved in minor accidents that only resulted in damage to our vehicles, others have experienced a more devastating wreck. This may be particularly true when it comes to truck accidents. Negligent truckers can cause massive accidents that might leave a number of individuals with extensive injuries.

One way these tragic crashes can occur is by truck rollover. Truckers can take, and avoid, certain actions that can help prevent rollovers. For example, truckers should be sure to give themselves what are known as “speed cushions,” where they ensure that enough room separates them from the vehicles in front of them. Controlling speed, too, may help prevent a truck rollover.

The list does not end there. Truckers should try to avoid sudden movements with their vehicles that could cause the big rig to tip. Also, it is imperative to make turns according to what the truck’s load can handle. Some cargo may be more susceptible to shifting, making quicker turns more dangerous. Lastly, truckers should be rested and attentive behind the wheel. This may increase their reaction time and allow them to quickly identify any road hazards.

Although we all hope that truckers follow these safety tips, the sad reality is that far too many truckers are distracted, tired, inattentive or otherwise negligent behind the wheel. When this negligence leads to an injurious or fatal accident, victims and their families may have a lot to deal with, including medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and, if necessary, funeral costs. Those who find themselves in this position may want to learn more about their legal options as to what they can do to find accountability and, perhaps, compensation.
