Alcohol-related Massachusetts hit-and-run leaves one dead

On Behalf of | Sep 22, 2016 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Walking should not be an inherently dangerous activity. However, a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood or a short walk to work can prove injurious or deadly if there are negligent drivers on the road. There sadly is very little pedestrians in Massachusetts can do to protect themselves from errant motorists, but when they or their loved one are hurt or killed by such a driver, they may want to consider legal action as a way to pursue recovery for their losses and impose accountability.

One Massachusetts family may need to do this now after a 51-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident last week. According to police, a surveillance video showed a 2013 Cadillac SUV fleeing the scene of the accident with major damage to its windshield. Mere minutes later, the vehicle entered the drive-through at a nearby Taco Bell. The driver ordered food, then went home.

Local police quickly located the man and placed him under arrest after an inspection of his vehicle’s windshield led to the discovery of blood, hair and body tissue. The driver claimed that he hit cargo that fell from a box truck. The man’s blood was tested after his arrest and found that he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.136, well over the legal limit. There were also 12 pill bottles found in the vehicle as well as crack cocaine in a vial attached to the driver’s keychain.

Such a tragic and unwarranted loss of life can take a toll on a family. They may suffer serious emotional and financial losses that can leave them devastated. By taking legal action, whether by filing a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit, they may be able to pursue compensation for their losses. These damages may include medical expenses, lost wages and funeral costs. Additionally, a successful claim could help a family feel as if justice has been served, helping them find closure.
