Cape Cod is a destination for tourists and a beloved home for many residents. In the mid-Cape town of Dennis, local residents lost a long-time resident and business owner.
A 75-year-old florist and owner of Blossoms Florist of Cape Cod, was struck by a car as he was walking, and has died as a result of his car accident injuries.
According to news sources, the man was walking along route 6A near the Dennis Market when he was struck by a car at about 6:30 a.m. The person who alerted a rescue effort was not identified, but it was reported that the injured 75-year-old was alive when he was transported to a Boston hospital. His injuries were reported as serious, and his condition critical, for three days until he finally succumbed to his injuries and died.
The road on which the man was walking does not have a sidewalk. He was reportedly hit by a 58-year-old woman who lives in Dennis. During the police investigation, the woman apparently made comments that alerted suspicions about her status in the United States.
Currently, her status is being investigated by U.S. Immigration and Control Enforcement as potentially undocumented or illegal.
She is in police custody and has been charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation. The 58-year-old was also allegedly driving without a valid driver’s license and has two charges of driving without a license. Her consequences will probably depend upon her immigration status.
When a person’s negligence contributes to the personal injury or death of another individual, the negligent person can be held liable for damages, including pain and suffering. In this case, the man’s family could file a wrongful death lawsuit against the 58-year-old.
