Motorcycle crash in Massachusetts claims 1 life

This has been a deadly summer for Massachusetts motorcycle drivers. Now, a Connecticut motorcyclist is dead after a Massachusetts teenager reportedly failed to stay in his lane and crossed the center line. The teen’s car struck the 56-year-old motorcycle driver and killed him. The motorcycle accident occurred on a highway in Charlemont, Massachusetts.

The teenager was issued a criminal citation for negligent operation and failure to stay in marked lanes. The police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident. According to the District Attorney, additional charges may be filed as a result of the investigation.

Motorcycle crashes often cause catastrophic injuries. Unfortunately, fatal motorcycle collisions can occur even when the motorcyclist has taken all the necessary safety precautions. Motorcycle drivers are especially vulnerable on Massachusetts roads. At times, drivers of trucks may not see them or a defect in the motorcycle may also be present, which can lead to an accident.

Additionally, a negligent party can cause a horrific accident, as suspected in this case. The immediate family members of the deceased motorcyclist may be entitled to a wrongful death claim against the driver in this accident.

Monetary damages such as loss of earnings, loss of future wages, funeral expenses and medical expenses can be recovered. Additionally, damages for loss of companionship and for the pain and suffering endured by the surviving family members can be recovered if liability of the teenage driver can be established. Other monetary damages may be recoverable as well.
