Massachusetts woman dies in five car accident on I84

On Behalf of | Dec 6, 2012 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Recently, a 41 year old Massachusetts woman who was driving in heavy traffic on Interstate 84 in Middlebury, Connecticut, was struck from behind by another Massachusetts resident, who was behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer. Apparently, the force of the collision caused a chainlike effect and the deceased woman’s car struck the one in front of her, which struck the next one and so on. Five vehicles were involved in this tragic car accident. There were eight other people that were injured as a result of the accident, one with serious injuries.

At this time, an accident investigation is being conducted by the Connecticut state police department. It is not known whether any criminal charges will be filed against the truck driver. Accidents involving trucks can be particularly complex and difficult to navigate, due to the regulations that trucks must adhere to and also due to the difficulty that may be present in determining what company may be liable for the injuries that result from a truck driver’s negligence.

If negligence is established against the tractor trailer driver, the immediate family members of the victim of this horrific accident may be entitled to file a wrongful death action in order to receive compensation for their loss. Although no monetary compensation can ever replace a life, they may be entitled to receive compensation for loss of companionship, loss of future income, medical and funeral expenses, and pain and suffering.

Additionally, the other accident victims may be entitled to seek damages against the tractor trailer driver as well. These damages may include reimbursement for medical treatment, lost wages, and compensation for pain and suffering. It is essential to be as educated as possible if faced with a tragedy such as this one in order to maximize the compensation that may be recovered.
