Massachusetts residents may be interested to learn of a recent horrific accident that killed a popular former middle school teacher of the town of Middleboro. According to reports, the police have now charged the 20-year-old driver that struck the 61-year-old former teacher with vehicle homicide. The criminal charge stems from the allegation that the 20-year-old was driving while intoxicated when the car accident occurred.

The victims of drunk driving accidents frequently suffer serious and sometimes even catastrophic injuries. Drunk drivers tend to drive in an unpredictable manner, speeding or careening out of control. The accident occurred at an intersection of town that has been known to be the scene of a number of accidents. The investigation into the accident continues, and the details of the accident have not yet been made available.

The victim of this tragic accident was a pillar of his community. He was a former teacher, coach and chaperone and a Vietnam veteran. No amount of financial compensation could ever replace the life of any individual. However, the family members of the deceased teacher may be entitled to seek damages from the individual whose negligence led to this former teacher’s untimely death.

By filing a wrongful death action, the family may be entitled to damages including reimbursement of medical and funeral expenses, compensation for loss of future income, loss of companionship, loss of consortium and damages for pain and suffering.

Additionally, if it can be proven that the driver was driving while drunk, the family may be entitled to seek additional, punitive damages from the negligent driver. It is important to gather as much information as possible prior to filing these actions in order to achieve the best possible result.
