Fatal construction site accident in Massachusetts

Massachusetts residents know that construction sites can be very dangerous work environments. Recently, in Northampton, a 56-year-old man who was installing and assembling some temporary modular office buildings at the Massachusetts Transportation Department Facility was tragically killed when he apparently became pinned between the buildings when one of them shifted during assembly.

At this time, the work related injury is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, state labor authorities and state and local police. Tragically, it was reported that the worker, who is from Connecticut, left behind a wife and three children.

Many times construction site accidents such as this one can be prevented by following proper safety procedures and protocols. Unfortunately, many companies forego these procedures and safeguards in favor of turning a higher profit. No company should ever place profits above the safety of its workers.

When a worker suffers an injury in Massachusetts, they may be entitled to receive a number of benefits through the Massachusetts worker’s compensation system, regardless of whether or not they were at fault for the accident. These benefits include reimbursement of medical expenses, ongoing medical treatment, compensation for lost wages and additional compensation if a worker is left with a permanent injury or impairment after an accident.

The family members of a worker who dies in a job-related accident may also be entitled to claim death benefits on behalf of their loved one. These benefits include reimbursement for funeral and burial expenses, as well as additional monetary compensation to compensate for their tragic loss.
