One dead, another injured in Massachusetts motorcycle accident

Riding a motorcycle is a great way to take in Massachusetts’ landscape while relaxing and enjoying the weather. It can also be a cost-saving way to get around town and to commute to and from work. However, since motorcyclists are not surrounded by steel reinforcements and are not protected by airbags as are car and truck drivers, motorists must be careful to be aware of them and to avoid acting in a way that might cause a collision.

Unfortunately, caution may not have been exercised recently in Webster, as a motorcycle accident there left one dead and another seriously injured. Police say the now deceased 61-year-old was riding on the bike with her husband, whom was operating the vehicle, when they were struck from behind by an SUV. The driver of the SUV, a 72-year-old man, apparently tried to slow down when the motorcycle in front of him slowed, but he could not stop in time. The exact cause of the accident is ongoing.

A motorcycle accident victim who is fortunate enough to survive the ordeal must often cope with various types of harm. He or she may suffer a permanent disability, experience terrible pain and suffering, lose money due to medical expenses and lost wages, and become anxious about his or her future and whether or not recovery can be had. When it all seems overwhelming, accident victims should seek out help.

One person who can often help is a personal injury attorney. He or she can help a victim develop a case that seeks to impose liability on a negligent driver. To do so, negligence must be shown, which in many cases can be established by presenting evidence that there was a failure to yield on the defendant’s behalf or that he or she was following too closely. Then, if that negligence can be shown to have caused the victim’s injuries, compensation may be awarded. Perhaps such recoveries will allow the victim to reach the fullest recovery he or she can achieve while moving on with his or her life.
